NCMEC Commends Teri Hatcher for Courageously Disclosing Child Sexual Abuse

This week’s disclosure by Teri Hatcher, star of ABC’s “Desperate Housewives,” that she suffered years of child molestation at the hands of a trusted family member, will lead the way in encouraging thousands of child victims to come forward. The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) praises Hatcher and hopes parents will use her poignant story to educate themselves and their children about the problem of child sexual exploitation. “The sexual victimization of our children is truly one of America’s worst kept secrets — largely unrecognized and underreported,” said NCMEC President and CEO Ernie Allen. “It is truly powerful that Ms. Hatcher has come forward not only to the authorities, having helped sentence her molester to 14 years in prison, but also to the public, having shared her story with the world including the countless child victims who suffer in silence because of fear, embarrassment, shame, and guilt.”Source
